Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that any US military attack on a NATO ally, including Greenland, would destroy the alliance and international security since World War II. Her comments came after US President Donald Trump reiterated his interest in “taking Greenland,” stoking fears of an invasion of the island, which is part of the Danish Kingdom and enjoys a high degree of self-government.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen called on Trump to abandon "annexation fantasies" and stressed that any dialogue should take place through official channels and in accordance with international law. Frederiksen added that the Danish government is doing everything to prevent an attack and accused the US of unacceptable pressure, stressing that Greenland does not want to become part of America. The European Union supported Denmark's position, guaranteeing the protection of its territorial integrity and sovereignty
