Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump during a brief visit to Washington. The meeting took place behind closed doors at the White House and was not open to the media.
According to the White House, Zelensky arrived at the presidential residence at around 09:40 local time, while the talks focused on the war situation in Ukraine and cooperation between the two countries.
The Ukrainian president's visit to Washington was organized primarily to attend the funeral ceremonies of US Senator Lindsey Graham, who died on July 11, just hours after returning from a visit to Ukraine.
During his stay in the American capital, Zelensky is also expected to meet with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, as well as a group of senators from both parties, at a time when the US Senate is preparing to vote on the "Lindsey O. Graham" Sanctions Act against Russia and Iran.
Ahead of his meeting with Trump, Zelensky said that strengthening air defenses, especially in the face of the threat from ballistic missiles, remains Kiev's top priority. He also stressed the importance of strategic cooperation with the United States and efforts to achieve a lasting peace.
On the other hand, the White House announced that the Trump administration remains committed to playing a constructive role in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, expressing optimism that an agreement can be reached in the future.
Zelensky has also announced that during the meeting he will present the US president with intelligence information, including satellite images, which he says show Russia's alleged support for Iran and its connection to the recent Iranian attacks.
