Starting this Sunday, the road to Europe has another obstacle. Every Albanian traveling to a European Union country will have to register in the so-called entry-exit system (EES), which will replace the traditional stamp in the passport.
This control is based on biometric controls where each citizen will be registered with their face and fingerprints. This system will be managed by the Border Police and will replace manual stamping with an electronic registration that includes the fingerprint, photograph and personal data of each traveler.
The aim is to increase security, control short-term stays (up to 90 days within 180 days) and prevent illegal immigration. The data will be stored in the central eu-LISA database, based in Estonia, which will collect information from 25 Schengen countries and 4 associated states — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
In this system, you register only once and the data is saved for each time you pass through a European Union country.
If you pass through several European Union countries within the same trip, registration is only done in the first country. At all border points in Albania, the situation remains the same as this change is reflected only in the EU entry gates.
