Within a few days, the Traffic Police are expected to launch a large-scale national campaign to control and discipline the use of electric skateboards or scooters on the country's roads.
This initiative comes after recent road safety analyses, which have shown that these vehicles have become an increased source of accidents and road incidents with consequences for users and pedestrians. Their use, especially by minors, is one of the main concerns, as most of the vehicles are not recognized and regulated in the Highway Code.
The alarming figures presented by the Trauma Hospital, where every day there are reports of citizens injured in accidents with these vehicles, have prompted the State Police to draft a plan of measures that foresees concrete interventions on the ground - for disciplining, controlling and in some cases even removing these vehicles from circulation.
In support of this decision, the Police cite as an example the practices of European countries such as France and Great Britain, which have already imposed strict rules and significant fines for the uncontrolled use of electric scooters.
