
María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan politician and activist, has been announced the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, for her tireless efforts in defense of the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her continued struggle towards a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
In an announcement on the social network X, the Nobel Committee said Machado was honored "for her tireless work in promoting democratic rights for the Venezuelan people and for her efforts to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."
The committee added that this year's prize is given to "a woman who keeps the flame of democracy alive, in a time of growing darkness."
