Less than an hour before the official departure, citizens from all Albanian-speaking regions gathered in Skanderbeg Square in Tirana to protest in support of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its former leaders who are on trial in The Hague.
With red and black flags and banners calling for freedom and national unity, the protesters express their solidarity with the four former KLA leaders: Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Among the participants is also an Albanian from Switzerland, who, dressed in national symbols, told News24 that he feels proud to be in Tirana to support the sacrifice of the KLA. He emphasized that the placement of the KLA symbols in front of the Skanderbeg monument is a powerful message about their history and contribution to the freedom of Kosovo.
