In the heart of Valbona National Park, one of Albania's natural gems, this view is seen, the bed of the famous river is almost completely dry.
The video clearly shows the shocking reality — a stream that once inspired songs and poetry has now become a strip of dry stones. The Valbona River, which legally enjoys the status of a protected natural area, is in practice being extinguished by human intervention.
The causes? Water has been diverted. For consumption and for private hydroelectric power plants, natural resources are being misused. Instead of being protected, this national asset is being exploited to the point of extinction.
This situation raises strong questions for the responsible institutions:
Who is monitoring the implementation of laws on protected areas?
Is there permission for these interventions?
Where are the voices of those who should defend Valbona?
Valbona is not just a tourist destination — it is a part of the natural soul of our country. And if today its flow is stopped for the sake of short-term gains, tomorrow it will be too late to restore what we have lost.
