The Albanian government is considering the possibility of taking over the debts of the company "Air Albania" after financial difficulties and the cessation of its activity.
The well-known international media outlet "AeroTelegraph", based in Switzerland, reports this, indicating that it is about 100 million euros in unpaid obligations by the company, including payments for rent, airport fees, fuel, food service, etc.
According to the media, the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has undertaken to pay around 35 million euros to avoid legal proceedings.
“The Albanian government is considering taking over part of the bankrupt airline’s debts. This stems from unpaid obligations of approximately 100 million euros, including payments for rent, airport fees, fuel and catering, according to local media reports.
To avoid legal proceedings, the state could take on around 35 million euros. These funds will be used specifically to resolve claims against Air Albania by its international partners.
The repayment to the state is planned for the long term. Air Albania ceased operations approximately seven months ago, after the aviation authority suspended its license. The airline is currently in liquidation,” the foreign media article states.
A few months ago, the Civil Aviation Authority of Albania suspended the activities of “Air Albania” due to contractual violations. Following this decision, several airports stopped services to the company and contractors grounded leased aircraft.
In November, Turkish Airlines issued a stock exchange announcement regarding the “sale of our partnership shares in Air Albania.”
