Albanian activist Teuta Hoxha, along with eleven activists affiliated with the group Palestine Action, were released on bail on Friday, after several months of detention in the United Kingdom.
Hoxha had been held in custody since November 19, 2024, on charges of involvement in a pro-Palestinian action that, according to British authorities, caused over a million pounds of damage to a research center of the Israeli arms company Elbit Systems.
During her time in detention, she went on two hunger strikes to protest what her supporters say are violations of her fundamental rights by the prison administration. Her health reportedly deteriorated significantly during these strikes.
In July 2025, the United Kingdom classified the Palestine Action group as a terrorist organization, significantly toughening the legal treatment of its members and supporters.
Hoxha's conditional release does not constitute the end of the legal case, and legal proceedings are expected to continue in the coming months. The case has sparked widespread debate about the boundaries between political activism, national security, and freedom of expression in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
