The government has announced that from this date the Llogara tunnel will be tolled. The fee will be 10 euros round trip for each vehicle passing through it. With this, this axis becomes the third in the country where tolls are applied, after the National Road and the Thumane-Kashar axis.
But the new Llogara toll translates into an increased cost for citizens traveling from Kukës or Kosovo to the south. If a citizen from Tirana to go to Vlora, Saranda or Himara only needs to pay 10 euros for the tunnel, for a Kosovar or Kuksian the amount goes up to 25 euros just for the round-trip road tolls.
This is because they have to pass through all three axes with a toll: Rruga e Kombit 10 euros, Thumanë–Kashar 5 euros and now the Llogara tunnel 10 euros.
In this way, the citizen of Kuks is faced with open discrimination. In addition to fuel expenses and other travel costs, he must reserve 25 euros just for the fares upon departure.
Simply put, although these routes shorten travel time, high fares make it increasingly difficult for average-income Albanians to travel or vacation in the south.
