Education expert Taulant Muka denounces plagiarism in the doctoral thesis of imam Ahmed Kalaja, obtained in 2017 from the European University of Tirana. According to Muka, Kalaja's work is a copy of materials by Genti Kruja and Feri Lika, where large parts of the text were taken verbatim without changes.
Kalaja's doctorate is on the religious discourse of Muslim clerics in Albania during the years 1912-1945 and is based on the original works of others without adequate citation.
He states that in Albania, doctorates have become a "marketing" offer, with UET alone having awarded over 500 doctorates in a few years, being compared to prestigious universities like Harvard.
Taulant Muka's full post:
Even "religion" with a doctorate of science with plagiarism. Ahmed Kalaja, in 2017, received a doctorate from the European University, but his "science" is a copy/plagiarism.
In the comparative materials, it is clear that Kalaja has “borrowed” word for word parts of the works of Genti Kruja and Ferit Lika. In fact, in some cases the text has not been changed at all, except when the author writes “I reflected on my topic of study”… which seems to have been done for him by someone else!
This case is no laughing matter, but at least it reminds us that in Albania doctorates have become a "marketing" offer rather than an academic achievement. Let us recall that UET alone has produced over 500–600 doctorates within a 3–5 year period, a pace that even Harvard would envy.
It's time for a serious check, as we are at a stage where "science" has ended up as a discounted commodity among us.
