In the last five years, 22 schools have been closed in the Korça region due to a drastic drop in student numbers. Villages known as Dardha, Boboshtica and Polena are facing continuous emptying, caused by emigration and low birth rates.
In Boboshtica, the school once had about 200 students, but today it remains closed. Former teacher Antonia Caprazi sadly remembers the time when lessons were buzzing in the classrooms of this institution.
In Polena, the few remaining students this year will be transferred to another school, as the local school will not open.
The Local Education Directorate in Korça confirms the situation, emphasizing that the significant decline in population in these areas makes it impossible to keep schools open.
