At a time when international conflicts and tensions are escalating, some countries remain models of stability and peace. According to the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI), published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, five countries have managed to maintain high levels of security and stability, ranking among the safest in the world.
The index assesses 23 indicators, including the level of militarization, internal security, crime rate and involvement in conflicts. Despite the increase in wars and global tensions, these countries have remained consistent in their peaceful policies.
1. Iceland – For the 17th year in a row, Iceland tops the list, offering high levels of security, a lack of militarization, and a social culture based on equality. Residents describe it as a place where you can walk at night without fear and where the police don't carry guns.
2. Ireland – With a policy of military neutrality and a strong sense of community, Ireland has seen a decrease in militarization and has become an example of welcoming and peaceful living.
3. New Zealand – The island nation benefits from its geographical location and strict gun control policies. Residents describe a society with high trust in institutions and in each other.
4. Austria – Known for its constitutional neutrality, Austria invests more in social welfare and education than in military spending. Safety is experienced in everyday life, from night walks to open communities.
5. Singapore – The only Asian country in the top 10, it stands out for its high internal security and public order. Residents describe it as a place where you can walk around at night without fear, although some civil liberties remain restricted.
The report emphasizes that these countries are proof that long-term policies based on neutrality, equality, and social investment can bring a lasting sense of security and peace to their citizens.
