Abuses continue in the pharmaceutical market in the country. The State Health Inspectorate, in its annual report for last year, highlights several important issues that are directly related to the health of citizens. According to the report, during sanitary inspections of drug trading entities (pharmacies and pharmaceutical warehouses), deficiencies such as the lack of a hygienic-sanitary approval act were found.

Also, in many cases it is not known what happens to expired medications, as there are no contracts with licensed entities for their disposal. Even more worrying is the presence of humidity in some pharmaceutical facilities, jeopardizing the quality and safety of the medications offered to citizens.
For these violations, during 2024 the Inspectorate has decided:
1 administrative measure (fine in lek)
1 interim decision to take urgent measures
14 warnings
Of the latter, 13 belong to the Fier district and 1 to Tirana. The fine was imposed on one of the pharmacies in the Fier district, while the urgent measure was taken against a pharmaceutical entity in Durrës.
