A large number of flights around the world were affected today by cancellations and delays, after Airbus issued an emergency order for software rollbacks on around 6,000 A320 family aircraft.
This is one of the most widely used passenger aircraft models in the world, and the immediate measure has caused significant disruption to air operations, according to Reuters.
The order came after an incident last month when a JetBlue plane suddenly lost altitude due to a flaw in flight control software. Investigations revealed that the A320 model needs mandatory updates, while some aircraft also require additional technical intervention.
As a result, many international airlines, including American Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, Avianca and others, have announced cancellations, delays or rescheduling of flight schedules.
Airlines are trying to implement the updates overnight to avoid further disruptions, but the effects are expected to be felt throughout the weekend.
Aviation officials in Europe, Asia and the US have been put on standby to oversee the software recovery process and the safety of the aircraft before they return to normal operations.
According to Reuters, the situation is causing major delays and inconvenience for travelers, during a period of high travel flow, creating one of the largest air disruptions in recent months.
What about Rinas?
At Rinas Airport, according to a survey on the official website, most flights have departed normally. And others are in progress. But there have also been cancellations, such as Air Albania to Milan at noon, which has been canceled.
Situation towards normalization
In recent days, several airlines have announced that some of their aircraft have already undergone the update and are back in service. For example, American Airlines said that most of its A320 aircraft will be ready for flight by this weekend.
In some cases, improvements were achieved overnight without causing further problems, as the solution was mainly software-based./Monitor
