Albania's former ambassador to UNESCO, Besiana Kadare, dismissed by the Rama government, has reacted harshly to the reality that awaited her in Tirana after her return from Paris. In a long status on social networks, Kadare strongly criticizes the noise pollution in the capital, which she calls "unbearable" and "like nowhere else in the world."
Describing urban life in Tirana as a “nightmare for the nervous system,” she denounces the high level of noise – from the constant construction, the honking of horns, to the music that blasts out in every public space. But in particular, Kadare dwells on what she calls “slanderous music,” of low quality and high volume that is heard in every corner of the city, without a break.
"I don't know where they manage to find such slanderous music... this is acoustic pollution beyond any limit, like in no other city in the world," she writes in her status.
At a time when Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, once known as a friend of Kadare, has been in prison for more than seven months, Kadare is calling for a citizen petition to raise public awareness and demand change.
"Maybe it's time for a citizen petition to get things moving," she concludes her message.
