Students from the University of Tetovo, Mother Teresa University, and South East European University have launched a protest in Skopje, demanding respect for their linguistic rights.
The protest began at the entrance to Ura e Gurit and is expected to continue in front of the Ministry of Justice. The students have stated that they are facing ongoing injustice, as they are not allowed to take the jurisprudence exam in Albanian, a right guaranteed by both the Constitution and the law in force.
During the protest, students held banners with various messages, including: “The Law on Languages is Clear,” “Stop Institutional Discrimination,” “Respect the Law on Language, Respect the Constitution,” and “Do Not Deny a Gained Right.” They called for support from all citizens, institutions, and social actors for their peaceful protest.
The issue has attracted increased attention in recent weeks, after 385 Albanian students from the three respective universities signed a petition, demanding that the bar exam be held in Albanian as well, in accordance with their legal rights.
