Prime Minister Edi Rama appears to have canceled his participation in the European Union Enlargement Summit, which is taking place today in Brussels with the participation of leaders of candidate countries for membership in the Union.
Initially, the media reported that Rama would be part of this summit, but the news was later deleted. According to VNA sources, the head of government has decided not to travel to Brussels, although the reasons for the cancellation have not been made public.

The decision raises questions, given that integration into the European Union is one of the main promises of the fourth term of the socialist government, which aims to conclude the process by 2030.
The EU Enlargement Summit, scheduled to take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, will focus on strengthening the voice of candidate countries. Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described this new phase as a process of “reuniting Europe.”
So, while Edi Rama has declared EU membership as the major objective of his fourth mandate, he himself is absent from the summits that specifically talk about the enlargement of the Union. The promises of a “European Albania” seem to be traveling without their leader, perhaps because the road to Brussels is more tiring than the problems with corruption in the government.
