The chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, reacted after the socialist majority's decision not to allow the lifting of the immunity of former Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of defending corruption and obstructing justice.
Bardhi described the decision as a political act that, according to him, confirms that Prime Minister Rama is a "hostage" of Balluk and the corrupt schemes that, according to the opposition, were built during his government.
According to Bardhi, the Special Structure against SPAK has presented evidence of 11 tenders worth around 1.1 billion euros, as well as evidence of pressure on witnesses through strongmen and payments.
According to him, in a functional democracy, Parliament should pave the way for justice to investigate the matter, while the majority's decision, according to the opposition, shows that institutions are being used to protect political power.
Bardhi added that the situation is no longer just an internal political issue, but is also related to the country's European integration process. He stressed that the European Union demands a real fight against corruption at the highest levels and the rule of law.
At the end of the reaction, Bardhi called on citizens to participate in the protest announced on March 12 in front of Parliament.
