Ilir Alimehmeti has expressed his ambition to run for the Mayor of Tirana next year, just a few days after Sali Berisha's decision to close the door on Florian Binaj's candidacy. In an interview for Top News, Alimehmeti emphasized that everything depends on how the competitions within the Democratic Party will be organized.
"For Tirana, a very political decision is needed and it will not be simple. I have always had my objective, it does not move, it remains the same," he declared.
However, it remains to be seen whether his wish will receive the approval of Berisha, who has recently been involved in the expulsion of Democratic members who joined Salianji's movement. We recall that this movement, which aims for changes in the party leadership, was initiated by Salianji in collaboration with Alimehmet, who appeared only at the first meeting and did not participate further.
Therefore, to secure a candidacy, Alimehmet needs to regain the trust of the DP leader. According to observations, this seems to be the initiative he has taken, excluding any possibility of running for leadership positions within the party.
