The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused the government today of defrauding pensioners with the bonus scheme for the May 11 elections. In a press conference, Berisha said that funds for this needy group have not yet been distributed, while pensioners are facing price increases.
“Months have passed since the elections and pensioners have not received a penny from the 240 million euro fund deposited in the State Bank, money that was not spent during 2025,” Berisha said. He added that, according to government decisions, these funds were to be disbursed as bonuses to pensioners, but so far no payment has been made.
Berisha accused the government of using the fund for other purposes and that its distribution has been postponed until the end of the year, emphasizing that this situation is made more difficult by high prices that increase every week.
According to him, the bonus scheme is a "fraud" for over 45 percent of pensioners, who either receive nothing or benefit very little.
