Democratic Party ally Fatmir Mediu does not agree that Jorida Tabaku or Ilir Alimehmeti should be candidates for Tirana Mayor. According to him, the name of the candidate should be a person who transcends the political costume and is close to the citizens.
"It must involve citizens against evil, so we must find an inclusive candidate. We must talk about a candidacy that transcends political boundaries. There must be people who transcend the political costume and are close to the citizens. I would not be in favor... I have consideration for Tabaku and Alimehmet, but the situation would be more localized," said Mediu.
However, this stance of the PR leader comes at a time when the two most voted names on the DP list in the May 11 elections have not expressed a desire to run for the Municipality of Tirana. Tabaku, so far, has passed the rumors in silence, without showing interest in this proposal. While Alimehmeti has categorically rejected it, stating that he is ready to run only in the 2027 elections for Tirana.
Therefore, Mediu's argument for these two names seems more like a justification for the situation of the opposition, which is still unable to find a candidate, even with personal will, to face Ogerta Manastirliu.
