DP begins procedures for electing new president, only one day deadline for candidates
The Democratic Party has officially launched the procedures for electing the new party leader, publishing the decision and the criteria that candidates must meet.
The decision was taken by the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations (KOKOE), in support of the DPA Statute and decision no. 35 of the DPA Presidency, dated March 17, 2026.
According to the published document, the deadline for submitting applications for candidacy and related documentation is April 30, 2026, 12:00. Candidates must submit a written application for candidacy, a Curriculum Vitae, and a completed clean image form.
The decision also sets out the criteria that candidates for the presidency of the Democratic Party must meet. According to the document, the candidate must be a member of the Democratic Party, a figure with a high public and political profile, and have at least 10 years of political and electoral engagement in the party.
It is also required that the candidate have leadership experience at the national or regional level in the political battles of the Democratic Party and meet the integrity criteria according to the legislation in force.
However, what has attracted attention is the very short deadline for candidacies, as only 20 hours remain from the publication of the decision to the submission of documents. In practice, this leaves candidates very little time to register in the race for party leadership. Making this race a new farce in the internal processes of the DP.
