Not only diplomats, but also opposition MPs were absent from the first session of the trial on the merits against Ilir Meta. This was clearly seen today at the GJKKO, where only a few supporters of the former president, MPs from the SMI and Bujar Leskaj, a DP MP and an early friend of Meta, had arrived.
No other Democratic Party MPs were present in court, even though this was the former president's first public appearance after almost two years in detention.
Representatives of foreign embassies in Tirana did not participate in today's session, although according to sources, Meta had officially invited them to be present.
