During his visit to Tirana, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament, David McAllister, focused in particular on the role of the opposition and the political climate in the country, expressing concern about the high level of polarization. He emphasized that Albania has made progress on the path of integration, but underlined that political stability and dialogue remain necessary for the European process to move forward.
McAllister called for the majority and the opposition to engage more in institutional dialogue, emphasizing that political clashes and violent protests have no place in a functioning democracy. According to him, the opposition should be part of the process of dialogue and political debate, while the majority should create the necessary space for this.
He announced that during the visit he met with a representative of the opposition, including Gazment Bardhi, Jorida Tabaku and Albana Vokshi, while he did not meet with the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.
