The Albanian Parliament rejected today with 82 votes the request of SPAK to authorize the arrest of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
During the voting process, the absence of four members of parliament from the majority was noted: Belinda Balluku herself, the Speaker of the Assembly Elisa Spiropali, MP Fatmir Xhafaj and Minister Blendi Gonxhe. According to official information, only Gonxhe was excused as he is abroad on a business trip.
To achieve the majority of 82 votes, the Socialists were joined by three deputies from Tom Doshi's party, making it possible to reject SPAK's request.
With this decision, Parliament did not authorize the prosecution to arrest Balluk, while SPAK's investigations into the matter continue according to procedures.
