The German Embassy in Tirana reacted to today's decision of the Albanian Parliament regarding the lifting of immunity, emphasizing that the effective fight against corruption at high levels remains an essential condition for Albania's advancement in the European integration process.
In its statement, the embassy emphasizes that Germany supports the process of Albania's integration into the European Union, in line with the aspirations of Albanian citizens.
However, according to her, progress in this merit-based process requires concrete results in the prosecution of corruption, including cases involving high-level officials.
"A necessary condition for making progress in this merit-based process is the effective prosecution of corruption, even in high-ranking cases," the response states.
The German Embassy also emphasizes the expectation that justice procedures will be carried out quickly and without obstacles.
"Our clear expectation is that even in these cases, criminal prosecution through justice can be carried out quickly and without obstacles. Albanian politics is still being asked to guarantee this process," the statement concludes.
