Following the Constitutional Court's decision to suspend the President's decree on holding elections in the Municipality of Tirana, the first reaction from the government has come. Minister of State for Parliament, Toni Gogu, in an interview for Top Channel, stressed that the Socialist Party remains committed to respecting the law and continuing to work with citizens.
"It was a decision made by the bodies that conduct elections. The Socialist Party is a competitor in the elections and does not organize elections. The President sets the date and the Court reviews it afterwards. As representatives of the Socialist Party, the first thing is that we respect the law, which we have done since day one; we do not comment on the decisions of the courts, especially that of the Constitutional Court," declared Gogu.
The minister also clarified the message distributed to the SP structures, emphasizing that the socialists will continue communicating with the citizens of the capital.
"This will have a fundamental decision that the Constitutional Court will review later. The SP headquarters does not change anything. We are in constant communication with the citizens of Tirana. There will definitely be an election day, but this does not prevent the SP from starting an intensive discussion with the citizens of Tirana - how we will continue to provide public services, public spaces and modernize the lives of citizens," he added.
