The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision to suspend the local elections in Tirana, describing it as an act in defense of the constitutional order.
“They defended the Constitution from its enemies, from the villains of the state,” Berisha declared in a statement to the media. He added that he had previously warned of “Edi Rama’s scenario of bypassing the Constitutional Court with the banal claim that the Council of Ministers was the notary of the Municipal Council.”
According to Berisha, with this decision, the judges have done a service to the country and the constitutional order, by "putting the seal of shame on Edi Rama, his puppet president and all those who were involved in this unconstitutional act."
