Genti Gazheli has been dismissed from his position as Director General of Customs, one of the most key institutions for public finances, revenue collection and border control.
Reliable sources confirm that the order for his dismissal was signed before Prime Minister Edi Rama's trip to Israel. The decision was made quietly and without an official public announcement until now.
According to the same sources, Shkëlqim Hajdari is expected to be appointed instead of Gazhel, although there is still no official confirmation from the government or the Ministry of Finance.
The change in the direction of Customs comes at a sensitive moment for fiscal administration, the fight against smuggling and the control of trade flows at the border, raising questions about the real reasons for this decision and its impact on the management of one of the most strategic institutions of the state.
