After the government meeting, the Minister for Local Government, Ervin Demo, gave what was presented as good news: the Transparency Board will meet today to review fuel prices.
The board meeting comes as a belated reaction to movements in international markets, which in Albania are usually reflected much faster in increases than decreases at gas stations.
While some countries have taken concrete measures, such as reducing fuel taxes, Albania, after several weeks of price increases, has decided to do what it knows best: convene a board meeting. Without any guarantee that this will have any real impact on reducing the price of oil, gasoline, or gas.
The price increase is also linked to tensions in the Middle East. After the outbreak of the conflict in Iran, global energy markets suffered a strong blow, leading to a rise in the price of "black gold" on international stock exchanges.
In Albania, meanwhile, citizens are waiting to see if the next meeting of the Transparency Board will produce more than an announcement.
