Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has spoken out against President Bajram Begaj's decree calling for elections before the Tirana mayor's impasse at the Constitutional Court is resolved. In an interview with TemA, Braçe stressed that "there is still time to respect this decision."
He also criticized the political force he is part of for the way it treated Erion Veliaj. According to him, his issue should have been discussed within the SP first and treated with more dignity.
"It should have been an issue to be discussed within the Socialist Party, and not with the involvement of opponents or enemies, or whatever you want to call them. In such cases, dignity has great value... Treating a person with dignity, even when you want to take him before prosecutors and judges, even when you want to remove him, you have to do it with respect," said Braçe.
This statement by a member of the SP leadership indicates that the decision to dismiss Veliaj may have been a decision made solely by Prime Minister Edi Rama, without extensive consultation with other party members.
