Today, for the second time, the former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, will appear before the High Court, in the hope of regaining his freedom. The Criminal College will review the case in a consultation room and decide whether or not to ease the security measure against him.
Veliaj claims that there is no risk of evidence being tampered with, as the investigations have been completed and the file has been sent to trial. On the other hand, SPAK argues that he could intimidate witnesses, as long as they have not yet given testimony in court – which could constitute evidence.
Erion Veliaj is facing 13 criminal charges, while his wife, Ajola Xoxa, is accused of 11 criminal offenses.
