The Journalists' Association of Albania expresses concern over the recent developments regarding the blocking of the TikTok platform in the country. In the AGSH statement, it is stated that the hearing scheduled for February 5 at the Constitutional Court, to review this issue, risks not taking place following the request of the Council of Ministers for its adjournment.
On February 3, the government announced the lifting of the measures to ban TikTok, but the decision has not yet been published in the Official Gazette and has not entered into force, leaving the legal effects of the ban active.
AGSH warns that these actions create suspicions of procedural maneuvers, which could avoid confrontation in the Constitutional Court and institutional responsibility for the decision that affects freedom of expression.
Representatives of the AGSH will be present on February 5, at 10:00, at the Constitutional Court to follow the situation closely.
AGSH statement:
The next day, February 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM, a court hearing was scheduled to be held at the Constitutional Court regarding the blocking of the TikTok platform in Albania.
On February 3, the Council of Ministers announced the decision to lift the measures to ban TikTok, claiming to repeal the previous decision blocking this social network. However, this decision has not yet been published in the Official Gazette and, therefore, has not entered into force, which means that the legal effects of the ban still remain active.
Despite this, on February 3, the Council of Ministers addressed the Constitutional Court with a request to dismiss the case, arguing that it had become "without object".
The Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH) expresses its serious concern regarding these actions, which create strong suspicions of procedural maneuvers aimed at avoiding confrontation in the Constitutional Court and, consequently, avoiding institutional responsibility for a decision-making that has produced direct consequences for freedom of expression and information.
Representatives of the Albanian Constitutional Court will be at the Constitutional Court on February 5 at 10:00 to monitor the situation!
