Sali Berisha spoke again today about the DP's participation in the Territorial Reform Commission, emphasizing that he sees cooperation with the SP as almost impossible.
In a meeting with the Democrats of Unit 7 in Tirana, the DP leader said that the Socialists intend to go down to 28–30 municipalities and that this is a "platform for the depopulation of Albanians and the annihilation of all services for them."
According to Berisha, this approach aims to eliminate public services in the territory and centralize everything in the hands of the government. He called this strategy a political deception, adding in harsh tones: “this one says take e-Albania, take 'Diella', a charlatan”.
Berisha admitted that he was forced to be part of this commission by pressure from some MPs. "We had real pressure from our people that we should be in reform, because when the first one was done, the DP boycotted. We will now make our project, we will present it to you and all Albanians and to the Commission, and we will clarify what our proposal is."
However, Berisha again expressed uncertainty about the real role of the DP in this process, underlining that Rama "will not accept" the opposition's proposal, because "he knows that he is heading towards the end."
He hinted that, despite the efforts of some MPs to be an integral part of the drafting of territorial reform, the DP will hardly have a direct influence on decision-making.
