Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe has reacted regarding the judicial process against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, emphasizing that he does not wish to comment on the issues that are under review by the judiciary.
When asked by journalists, Brace said that politicians should avoid commenting on court decisions and judicial processes.
"I believe that all of us politicians should not discuss judicial processes and court decisions. So I will continue to do the same thing I have done so far, not to comment on either prosecutors or judges. Everyone has their own position and is entitled to their own," he told the media.
However, Braçe added that above all, respect for human rights must be guaranteed in every process.
His statement comes at a time when the socialist MP has been rumored as one of the names that could run for the Municipality of Tirana, in case the mayoral position remains vacant. In this sense, Braça's stance seems to be an attempt to maintain the balance between justice and political solidarity – a position that seems to many to be neither meat nor fish.
