The opposition candidate for Tirana mayor still remains an enigma, while for Dr. Ilir Alimehmeti this is a waste of time. In an interview with A2CNN, Alimehmeti criticized the Democratic Party, saying that "we should have come together so that this issue would not have been left behind."
Although he is rumored to be one of the most consensual names for Tirana today, Alimehmeti says he is ready for the 2027 race. For the race that is expected to be held now, he agrees with the rumors of being the most voted candidate of the DP in the May 11 elections, thus passing the ball to his colleague, Jorida Tabaku. Meanwhile, the latter has not reacted so far, hinting that she does not plan to leave the mandate of the deputy for mayor.
Alimehmeti also believes that Erion Veliaj should have been dismissed since they submitted a petition for his three-month absence from office. But he does not agree with the way the prime minister has chosen to remove him from office. According to him, the procedure is in violation of the law, and he even thinks that Veliaj should be given the right to be present at the Municipal Council meeting on Tuesday.
