The civic protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office has continued on its 49th day, while participants have reiterated the demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the continuation of the mobilization until the objectives announced by the movement are achieved.
While on Saturday morning, in the premises of Hotel Tirana, the so-called "National Protest Assembly" took place, in the afternoon of the same day the Protest Coordination Group reacted with strong accusations against the organizers of this meeting.
Representatives of the Coordination Group stated that the protest does not need representation at tables or structures created outside the square, emphasizing that its legitimacy stems solely from the citizens who protest every day in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
According to them, the attempt to organize a "National Assembly" after almost 50 days of protest constitutes an attempt at division, which, according to them, serves the interests of the government.
They called on citizens not to fall prey to provocations and to continue to join the protest, while maintaining the unity of the movement.
Some of the protesters who spoke during the rally in front of the Prime Minister's Office also expressed their opposition to the National Protest Assembly, stating that it does not represent them and that no one has a mandate to speak on behalf of the citizens who have been protesting for 49 consecutive days.
During the rally, the call for maximum mobilization in the protest on July 23, which is expected to take place in parallel with the last parliamentary session of this legislature, was also repeated. The protest organizers consider this date as an important moment to increase citizen pressure on the government and institutions.
