Not even "Veliera", a project that has cost citizens millions of euros from their own pockets, has escaped the floods in the city of Durres.
The underpass near the port has filled with water again, while a fire truck is in the area to enable the removal of water from the underpass, which has become impassable.
The "architectural masterpiece", which cost over 10 million euros, turns out to lack a functional sewage system for the discharge of water, flooding for the umpteenth time whenever rainfall intensifies.
The “Veliera” project was initially funded in March 2016 with a fund of 4.7 million euros. The contract was won by the merger of the companies “Everest” and “Fusha”, which started the works. However, subsequent works brought the total cost of the project to about 10 million euros.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Edi Rama described the Veliera as an architectural masterpiece, which would serve pedestrians and visitors, considering it a tourist postcard for the city of Durrës.
"An architectural masterpiece, which creates a new public space for the city's pedestrians, visitors and increasingly numerous tourists, as well as another postcard of the Reborn Tourist Albania," Rama emphasized.
Today, this "masterpiece" seems to have turned into a reservoir every time it rains, blocking the movement of citizens and turning into a ridiculous 10 million euro postcard for tourists visiting Durrës.
