After recent rain and snowfall, flows into the Ulza Lake water basin have increased significantly, causing the water level to reach its maximum level near the hydroelectric dam.
As a result, the water level has also risen significantly in the village of Urake in Mati, flooding an electrical substation that had been in the area for decades. From the images provided, it appears that about half of the substation is under water due to the increase in the level. Residents say that during days of intense rainfall, the level has been even higher, while the presence of water in contact with electrical installations poses a serious risk to their lives.
The situation also remains worrying for agricultural lands in the villages of Urakë and Rukaj, which have been flooded as a result of the lake swelling. The increase in water levels has led to flooding in the gravel areas of "Kurvajë" and "Tharbni", causing considerable damage.
According to residents, the flooding from the "Tharbn" gravel pit has damaged fishing reserves and put several homes near the area at risk. They emphasize that this situation has worsened after the increase in the Ulza dam's discharge gates, an intervention carried out several years ago by the Turkish company KURUM.
Residents accuse the company of repeated damage and say that, despite continuous requests to prevent the water level from reaching its maximum point, their concerns have not been taken into account.
