The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has sent the criminal file against former Socialist Party MP Jurgis Çyrbja to trial. In the preliminary hearing held this Monday, Çyrbja, through his lawyer, requested a shortened trial.
The former MP is accused of three criminal offenses: “Active corruption in elections”, “Supporting the perpetrator of the crime” and “Trading in state secrets”. He was arrested on Sunday in Durrës, a few days after handing over his mandate as MP, which he had held since 2017.
According to investigations conducted by SPAK, Çyrbja communicated through the encrypted application "Sky ECC" with wanted persons, exchanging information related to official documents and acts that constitute a state secret, according to the legislation in force.
