A fire that was brought under control overnight has returned to the town of Poliçan this afternoon, seriously threatening dozens of homes in the village of Prokëçat.
Strong winds and high temperatures have favored the rapid spread of the flames, which are burning a terrain filled with dense vegetation, trees and shrubs, in an area difficult to access.
During the night, firefighters from Poliçan, Skrapar and Berat participated in efforts to neutralize the fires, supported by the Armed Forces and a helicopter that intervened from the air.
However, the fire has resumed with greater intensity, posing a direct threat to residents and their properties.
The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, arrived in Poliçan this morning to closely monitor the action taken to extinguish the flames.
The fire has also caused damage to the area's digital infrastructure, causing internet outages for users throughout Poliçan, due to network damage.
To assist the forces on the ground, a few minutes ago, an AirCanada aircraft was also deployed to extinguish the fire.
