A new development has occurred in the trial for the murder of 22-year-old Albanian Ilaria Sula, where the accused Mark Antony Samson gave evidence before the Serious Crimes Court in Rome. During the hearing in the high-security premises of Rebibbia Prison, the 24-year-old admitted that he cannot fully explain his actions at the time of the crime.
"I can't explain what happened to me. It was like a curtain had blocked my eyes... I don't remember how many times I hit him, but definitely more than twice," he told the jury.
The incident took place on March 23, 2025, in Samson's apartment in Rome, where Ilaria was stabbed to death. The defendant also admitted that in previous testimonies he had not always told the truth and that he had tried to protect his mother, who had previously been involved in the investigation and had been convicted of hiding a body.
Samson added that Ilaria was “angry and disappointed” after discovering his lies about her university studies. The hearing was attended by the victim’s parents, who experienced difficult emotional moments. Ilaria’s mother was forced to leave the courtroom for a few minutes due to her deteriorating condition.
"Hearing these things and remembering the last moments of my daughter's life is incredibly painful," she said.
The 22-year-old's father stressed that the family is not seeking revenge, but justice. "I'm not seeking revenge, just justice. And justice means life in prison."
