A serious accident occurred at around 01:30 at night on the "Ismail Qemali" boulevard in Vlora, where 17-year-old Leandro Shametaj lost his life. The young man, who worked as a waiter, was returning from work when he was fatally hit by a Porsche-type vehicle, which was suspected to be moving at a breakneck speed of around 200 km per hour.
According to preliminary sources, the driver of the vehicle is suspected of being intoxicated, and after the incident he was escorted to the police station for further verification.
The 17-year-old's family is shocked by the tragic event. The deceased's grandfather spoke to the media, indicating that his grandson had returned from work and that legal procedures at the morgue have not yet been completed.
"My daughter's son was in an accident, I'm the grandfather. Last night at 12 o'clock in the night he was in an accident. We came to the Vlora morgue, for 8 hours. The coroner is not coming to do the work. The state is turning its back on us. Neither the prosecutor nor the coroner is coming. 30 police officers here and no one is taking action. A car killed our son, on the main boulevard, it drove away at 200 km/h. No police patrol has stopped it. They won't let me see my son, my grandson is not a criminal," he said.
