The Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani, reported this Monday to the Parliament on the work of SPAK during 2024. After presenting the annual report, Dumani answered questions from MPs, including those from the opposition who requested clarifications on the investigations into the incinerator issue.
Asked whether the former mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has been indicted in connection with the Tirana incinerator case, Dumani said that the preliminary investigations have not yet been completed and that there is currently no decision on this matter.
"Regarding the incinerators, we have investigated Elbasan, Fier and Tirana. SPAK has criminally prosecuted 71 people at all levels. Some with final decisions, some in trial and some still under investigation. For the incinerators of Elbasan and Fier, the judicial processes have been concluded and have confirmed the legal qualification made by SPAK. While for the incinerator of Tirana, the preliminary investigations have not yet been completed", declared Dumani.
Regarding former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, the head of SPAK said that he continues to be an internationally wanted person for several criminal offenses. "His public statements are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. At any moment that an entity wants to cooperate with justice, it is more than welcome," Dumani added.
