Special Judge Erjon Bani has declared his incompetence to decide on the request of former President Ilir Meta to replace the security measure "prison arrest" with a lighter measure.
The decision was made following the request of lawyer Kujtim Cakrani, who argued that Erjon Bani is not the judge in the case, but only a willing one, and therefore cannot decide on this request.
Former President Ilir Meta was not present at the hearing, but was represented by lawyers Kujtim Cakrani and Dylejman Karaj. The request for the replacement of the security measure was filed on August 6, while the lawyers argued that there is no longer a risk that Meta will destroy evidence, since the investigation has been closed and the file has been sent to trial.
The process for replacing the security measure will now continue by the judge competent for this matter.
