Businessman Sokol Meqemeja, who was wanted a few days ago on suspicion of illegally building a Thermal Power Plant (TPP), surrendered to the police and was later released, after on-site verifications completely refuted the charges against him.
According to the official Police announcement, inspections conducted in the area where construction was taking place showed that the facility was not a TEC, as initially suspected, but a gas purification plant – an integral part of the natural gas extraction and filtration process at the company's active well.
During the testimony given at the police station, Meqemeja stated that it was a "misunderstanding fueled by malicious information", explaining that:
“The plant is an integral part of the gas filtration process and has no connection to energy production.”
He added that the construction was carried out in full compliance with legislation and with the knowledge of the relevant authorities, including technical and environmental documentation.
Meqemeja also accused certain individuals of spreading false information with the aim of damaging his image and creating a "media storm without any real basis."
