The three seats reserved for judges in the High Judicial Council are being filled. At the General Meeting of Judges held this Friday, three new members of the High Judicial Council were elected, one from the High Court, one from the Courts of Appeal and one from the Courts of First Instance.
For the seat on the Supreme Court, the race between Sandër Simoni and Arbena Ahmeti ended in a complete tie, with 179 votes each. Under these conditions, in accordance with the regulations, a draw was made with balls and the winner was Judge Sandër Simoni, who will be a member of the Supreme Court of Kosovo from the ranks of the Supreme Court.
In the race for judges of appeal, Fatri Islamaj secured 190 votes, compared to Igerta Hysi's 171 votes. With this result, Islamaj was elected a member of the Supreme Court of Justice, representing judges of the courts of appeal.
Meanwhile, from among the first instance judges, Brunilda Kadi is elected a member of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Today's process comes within the framework of the renewal of the composition of the High Judicial Council. The High Court had opened the procedure on June 26 for the election of three new members, as the five-year mandates of the three current members of the High Judicial Council, one from the first instance, one from the appeals and one from the Supreme Court, end on December 12, 2026.
The official list of candidates was announced on July 21, while the elections were set for September 25. The new composition will take office after the end of the current mandates.
