
A tragic event shook the city of Bulqiza yesterday, where a 66-year-old man lost his life as a result of the collapse of a rock mass in one of the galleries of a mining entity.
The victim, citizen FV, was working at the time of the fatal accident. The incident has caused strong reactions in public opinion, once again drawing attention to the difficult and often unsafe working conditions in Albanian mines.
As a result of preliminary investigations, the Bulqiza Police have arrested five technical staff members of the mine, who are suspected of failing to comply with safety regulations in the workplace.
Those arrested are:
Njazi Përkola, 46 years old
Besnik Çupi, 68 years old
Ferit Truka, 61 years old
Ervis Kadiu, 35 years old
Edmond Xhafa, 51 years old
According to the Police, the actions or inactions of these citizens led to the lack of appropriate measures for technical safety of work, which is suspected to have led to the tragic consequence.
The incident is being investigated by the Dibra Prosecutor's Office, while the arrested are facing charges for the criminal offense of "Violation of occupational safety regulations", resulting in death.

No measures were taken to ensure safety conditions at the mining entity where citizen FV lost his life yesterday, and 5 technical staff members were arrested.
Following the investigative and operational actions carried out with the aim of clarifying the responsibilities and circumstances, in relation to yesterday's event, which occurred in a mining entity in Bulqiza, where citizen FV, 66 years old, lost his life, it is suspected that as a result of the fall of a rock massif, while working in the gallery, the services of the Bulqiza Police Commissariat arrested in flagrante delicto citizens Nj. P., 46 years old, B. Ç., 68 years old, FT, 61 years old, EK, 35 years old and E. Xh., 51 years old, all employees of the technical staff of the mining entity.
From the investigations so far, it results that these citizens, through their actions or inactions, have not taken the appropriate measures to guarantee the technical safety conditions of work in the mining entity.
The procedural materials were referred to the Dibra Prosecutor's Office for further action, for the criminal offense of "Violation of occupational safety regulations", resulting in death.
