British authorities have arrested 40-year-old Florant Nako, a former bank director, wanted by Interpol Tirana for several theft episodes that occurred during 2018 and 2019 at the branch where he worked at Kombinat.
According to extradition court documents in London, Nako is accused of embezzling 4,000 euros from the account of client Nikolla Nika on October 15, 2018. He is also suspected of illegally withdrawing 1,300,000 lek from the same account on July 8, 2019, while on July 26, 2019, he took another 550,000 lek, again to the detriment of the same client.
Nako is expected to appear before the London court again on November 11, 2025, where the request for his extradition to Albania will be considered.
In a public announcement in 2020, Tirana Police stated:
"The operation was finalized after a four-month investigation, following a denunciation made by the bank, while Nako had resigned from his position. Florant Nako will now face justice on the charge of 'Theft committed by abuse of office'."
Meanwhile, the bank reacted by emphasizing:
"From the first moment of the incident being ascertained, all appropriate measures have been taken according to internal procedures and the legal framework, cooperating closely with the competent authorities to clarify the matter and maximize the protection of the client's interests."
